How Should God’s People Live Each Day?
They Should Live Like Jesus...
by saying no to disobeying God!

All of God’s people are tempted to disobey God. They love God and want to obey Him. They have the Holy Spirit living in their hearts. But sin is still very strong in their hearts, too. Sometimes it is very, very hard to say “no” to disobeying God. It was hard for Jesus, too. God wants His people to do what Jesus did when He was tempted. Jesus prayed to God His Father to help Him. He remembered God’s Word and it made Him strong to say “no” to disobeying God. God helped Jesus never to disobey Him. And God promises to help His people to do what is right when they are tempted, too. When we trust Jesus as our Savior, we can know that He will help us, too.

Scripture Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful: he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he’ll also provide a way out so you can stand up under it.”

What’s a temptation? It’s thinking about doing something that God says is wrong! We are all tempted to do bad things. Sometimes it is very, very hard to say ‘no’ to temptation. But God’s people have these wonderful promises from God that He won’t give them too much temptation; and, He will even give them a way to say ‘no’ to temptation every single time! Isn’t God kind to His people! He helps them to live for Him!

How Should God’s People Live Each Day?
They Should Live Like Jesus...
by learning God’s Word and obeying it!

Jesus knew God’s Word very, very well, even when He was just a boy. It was very important that Jesus knew God’s Word so well. He had to obey every single bit of God’s Word, all the time, to be our Savior. He would need to God’s Word to fi ght temptation and comfort Him in hard and sad times. God’s people need to know God’s Word well, too. They need it to tell them how to live lives that please God. They need it to fi ght off temptation to disobey God. They need it to comfort them in hard and sad times. God promises that the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of His people as they know and think about His Word. He will help them to live for God as God’s Word tells them to.

Scripture Verse: Psalm 119:11
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

Sometimes when we have something very special, we hide it in a special place to have it ready for us when we need it. God’s people learn God’s Word and keep it in their hearts. Why? So it will be ready to use to help them live for Him. God’s people know that God’s Word is very powerful. It can help them say ‘no’ to sin. It can help them know how to love God and love others. Do you have any Bible verses you are hiding in your heart? Maybe you can learn this one today!

How Should God’s People Live Each Day?
They Should Live Like Jesus...
by loving God most of all!

Jesus loved God with all His heart. There was no one Jesus loved more than God. And Jesus didn’t just feel love in His heart for God. He lived it out. He obeyed God’s laws. He loved God by pleasing God with everything He did. He pleased God with the thoughts in His mind. He pleased God with every word that He said. He pleased God in everything that He did. God helps His people to love Him like that, too. He wants them to love Him more than anyone or anything else—just like Jesus did. He wants them to love Him by obeying Him—just like Jesus did. He promises to help them to love and obey Him more and more, by His Holy Spirit working inside their hearts.

Scripture Verse: Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Israel is the name of God’s special people long ago. God wanted them to love Him most of all. How could they do that? By loving Him with all their heart, all their soul and all their strength. God wants His people to do that today! That’s always the best way to love God most.

Resources for Week 24 - March 7

They Should Live Like Jesus...
by asking God for His help!

When Jesus lived on earth, He asked God His Father for help to do everything He wanted Him to do. God wants His people to ask Him to help them, too. The Bible is filled with God’s promises to help them. God’s people can pray these promises for themselves. They can pray them for others, too. One of God’s best promises is to send the Holy Spirit to keep working in His people’s hearts. The Holy Spirit helps them know what God wants them to do. He makes them strong and brave to do it. God is faithful. He will always help His people to live like Jesus—every single day.

Concept 1 Scripture Verse: Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Long ago, a king used sit on a big special chair called a throne. When people wanted to talk to the king, they would come before his big chair to talk to him. God is the King over everything. That means He is the one in charge. He loves for His people to ask Him for help. When they pray to Him, it’s like coming before His throne --His big King chair. God’s people don’t have to be scared to come before Him. They can come with confidence before Him, because Jesus is their Savior. They know He will help them to love Him and live for Him.

Additional Scripture for Sparks and T&Ts: 2 Corinthians 3:18
We, who….reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit lives within the hearts of God’s people. He helps them want to love and please God. Every day, the Holy Spirit is at work inside them to make them more and more like Jesus in how they think, speak and act—and less and less disobedient and rebellious. None of God’s people will ever be perfect here on earth, but God by the power of His Holy Spirit is transforming them bit by bit, for their good and His glory. This is how God helps them to live for Him on earth and prepares them to live with Him in heaven.
