Resources for Week 23 - February 29

What Did Jesus Come to Do?
Jesus Came to Bring Us to God...
He went up to rule in heaven!

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to lots of His special followers many times. He told to them why He had to suffer and die on the cross. He showed them in the Bible how God His Father had always planned for Him to take the forever punishment for His people. He told them to go to every part of the world to tell others how the good news. All who would hear the good news, say sorry for their sins and trust in Jesus as their Savior would be saved from God’s forever punishment. They will know special closeness with God now and forever.

After Jesus said all of this, He went home to heaven. Once more Jesus enjoyed the most closest, most wonderful love together with God the Father and the Holy Spirit like He had before He went to earth. Once more He was full of the bright, shininess of glory. Once more He knew all the riches of heaven. And now angels praised Him as the great Savior. Jesus’ work on earth was done, but not His work in heaven. Jesus now reigns as king over all the universe --the King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus prays and cares for God’s people as God’s plan for them keeps being worked out here on earth. He is there ruling and caring for God’s people even now! One day Jesus will come back to earth to bring an end to sin and to rule in God’s new heavens and earth, with God’s people, forever happy. What a great day that will be!

Bible Verse Mark 16:19 “After the Lord Jesus had spoken the them, He was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.”

The Bible tells us that after Jesus rose from the dead, He talked with His disciples about a lot of things. But at last,
when Jesus finished telling them everything He had to say, it was time to go back to heaven and rule as King with God the
Father and God the Holy Spirit. The disciples watched Jesus as He went up into the clouds, then up into heaven.

Resources for Week 22 - February 22

What Did Jesus Come to Do?
Jesus Came to Bring Us to God...
He never, ever disobeyed God!

Concept: Jesus Came to Bring Us to God... He never, ever disobeyed God!
Jesus never, ever sinned. He always obeyed His Father, God. There were many times when Jesus was tempted to sin. But even then, Jesus never, ever did. It was very hard for Jesus to obey God when He had to suffer and die on the cross. He didn't want to hurt so badly. But He did do it because He loved His people and because He wanted to obey God, His Father. It is very, very good for us that Jesus did not sin. Only if Jesus never, ever sinned could He be good enough to pay for His people’s sins on the cross. He had to be perfect to save them. You can be one of God’s people, too, if you say sorry to God for your sins, trust Jesus as your Savior, and live your life for Him.

Concept 3 Scripture Verse: Hebrews 4:15
“[Jesus] has been tempted in every way, just as we are-- yet was without sin.”

Do you know what tempted means? It means thinking about doing something that God says is wrong. Our Bible verse tells us Jesus was tempted in every way, just like we are! But what made Jesus different? He always said "no" to tempting things. He never disobeyed God! Jesus was perfect. He was without sin! I'm so glad Jesus never disobeyed God. Because that was the only way He could be our Savior!

He taught about God and did amazing things!

When Jesus grew up to be a man, He began to teach people what God is like and how to obey Him. He began to tell how they could become one of God’s people. Jesus said that even people who had disobeyed God a whole lot could be forgiven by God. He said that He was God’s Son who came to save them. The people who listened to Jesus were amazed at what He told them. They had never heard someone tell them so much about God. Jesus talked as if He knew God, Himself for of course He did, because Jesus was not just a man like them, He was God, the Son of God, Himself. Jesus also did things that no one had ever seen before. He healed very sick people. He feed lots of people with just a little bit of food. He calmed the wind and waves of a raging storm. He even brought dead people back to life. All of these things are miracles. Miracles are things that only God can do. Jesus did miracles to show people that He really was the Son of God. He wanted them to believe in Him so that they could be saved from God’s forever punishment and come to know and love God as God created them to. People listened to Jesus teach and they watched His miracles. Many believed that Jesus was the Son of God come to save
them.

Concept 2 Scripture Verse: Matthew 4:23
“Jesus went... preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people."

Tie-in: Jesus taught the people the good news of the kingdom of God. Do you know what that good news is? That anyone who says sorry to God for their sins and trusts Jesus as their Savior will be forgiven and saved. They will get to love God and enjoy Him forever! And Jesus healed all sorts of sicknesses. Not the way doctors do, with medicines! No, Jesus is God. He could tell sickness to leave and it would. Just like that! Many people watched what Jesus said and did and believed in Him. That’s the best news of all!

Resources for Week 20 - February 8

He left His home in heaven to save us!

Jesus is God’s Son. He has always lived in heaven with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Life with God the Father and the Holy Spirit was wonderful. They had the closest, most wonderful love together. Jesus was full of the bright, shininess of the glory of God. Jesus knew all the riches of heaven, but He left heaven to come to earth to save His people. He was born a baby boy. He was still God, just like before. But now He was a human, too. Life as a human wasn’t anything like life in heaven. All around Him were people who disobeyed God. Jesus still had the love of God the Father and the Holy Spirit, but it was not the same wonderful closeness as in heaven.
Jesus left behind His bright shininess of the glory of God. He left behind the riches of heaven. Why did Jesus leave behind all the wonderful things of heaven and come to earth? Because God loved His people and wanted to save them. And also, to show just how wonderful God is. Only through Jesus’ suffering and dying on the cross could God’s people be saved from their sins and know special closeness with God forever. Jesus knew this and He wanted to save God’s people. He wanted to show how wonderful God is. He wanted so much that He even left His home in heaven to do it!

Concept 1 Scripture Verse: John 6:38
“For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but. to do the will of him who sent me.”

Tie-in: Jesus left His wonderful home in heaven to live on earth. Why? To carry out God’s amazing plan. What’s that plan? To save His sinful people from their sins so they could know Him and enjoy Him forever! What an amazing plan! What a wonderful God!
