How Does God Want Us to Pray?
Every Night and Day...
He wants us to confess our sins!
One thing God’s people do when they pray is confess their sins. Confessing sins means thinking of how we have disobeyed God and saying sorry to God. God wants us to think about how we’ve disobeyed Him in our hearts, like when we stay very mad at someone and won’t forgive them. He wants us to think about how we’ve disobeyed Him with our words, like when we say mean things to someone. He wants us to think about how we’ve disobeyed Him with things we have done, liking hitting someone. When we say sorry to God for these things and ask Him to help us to stop doing these things, God forgives us. When Jesus died on the cross, He took God’s forever punishment for all of His people’s sins. Anyone who trusts in Jesus as their Savior has God’s promise that He will forgive their sins --every single one of them. Isn’t that good news!
Scripture Verse: Psalm 32:5
“I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity... and you forgave the guilt of my sin.”
When we acknowledge our sins to God, it means we confess we did them. It’s easy to want to cover up our iniquities --that is our sins. We don’t like them and we don’t want to think about them. But our Bible verse tells us that God’s people confess their sins to God, instead of covering them up. And what does God do then? He forgives them! That’s very good news!
